Final Demand Campaign
Final Demand is NUS Scotland’s campaign to
improve access to further and higher education, increase
bursaries for those who need them, cut course costs and
drop the debt faced by students and graduates.
On 23 April 2008, NUS Scotland launched the results of the Final Demand campaign in a document called Scotland's Lost Opportunities. Download a copy of the report here.
Scotland's Lost Opportunities
NUS Scotland policy:
NUS Scotland seeks to promote, defend and extend the rights of students,
and develop and champion strong students’ associations. We are committed
to a state-funded education system that is free at the point of entry, that
provides support for students who need it, and that promotes widening
access and equal opportunities for all.
We believe that the greatest problem facing students is the appalling levels of
financial hardship and debt: we estimate that, after rent, students have less
than £8.05 a week to live on. Many students cannot afford to study full-time,
and many drop out due to financial pressures.
NUS Scotland continues to demand:
• free tuition in further and higher education, paid by the state, for
all students in the UK - no matter where they live, or where they
choose to study
• grants for all students who need them
• access to state benefits for all students
• adequate childcare provision
• full access and support for disabled students.
We are campaigning for these demands, and we need you to add your voice
to the campaign. You can get involved by doing one or more of the following:
• email your MSP to ask them to lobby for better student funding
and an end to student debt.
• contact your students’ association to find out other ways you can
get involved in campaigning.
• phone, write or email NUS Scotland to tell us what you think about
student funding in Scotland.
